
Terry Glaze’s twelfth studio recording, titled “1971,” is a good example of alternative American music; it’s easy to listen to, and you can imagine hearing it in your local bar or on your car radio.
Glaze was the lead singer for the heavy metal band Pantera back in the height of American glam rock, from 1981-1986. The bands’ albums include “Metal Magic,” “Projects in the Jungle,” and “I Am the Night.”
Glaze is making a comeback with his new CD, which departs from glam rock and enters the realm of alternative rock. Ballads make up about half the album, and the rest is acoustic. His subject matter deals mostly with his troubled past, broken hearts, and love songs. Many songs start off with heavy rock riffs reminiscent of bands like Pearl Jam, and his vocals evoke those of Blind Melon.

There are also small, perfect gems in “1971,” such as The Beatles’ “Come Together”-esque song. Many artists who have sung in important bands wear it on their sleeves, but Glaze is a definite exception; he wears the love of his music and poetry in his music.
